Publicity officer needed!

10 November 2015 by kate Leave a Comment

Global Justice Oxford is looking for a new volunteer publicity/communications officer. Ideally we would like someone who can:

  • keep our website updated
  • update our Facebook page
  • run our Twitter account
  • write occasional press releases and send them out
  • write blog posts

But we would be very happy with someone who could just do one or two of those things – for example, perhaps you’re happy penning a press release but the thought of Twitter makes you shudder. Or maybe you’re a social media guru but you don’t fancy updating our WordPress site. We’re happy to hear from people with a range of skills and interests.

If there are things you’d like to try but you don’t know much about them, we may be able to offer a bit of training. Our former communications officer Kate Griffin has now moved to Sheffield (which is why she’s not our comms officer any more!) but she may be able to offer training on the website, on the social media accounts and/or on press releases via phone or Skype.

This volunteer role is a really good opportunity to gain some solid experience doing comms in a low-pressure, friendly and supportive group. If you’re interested, please do get in touch!

Speakers include

  • Maude Barlow, chair of citizens’ group the Council of Canadians

Banbury Canal Day: volunteers needed

9 September 2015 by kate Leave a Comment

Banbury Canal Day is a relaxed riverside festival in – you guessed it – Banbury. We’ll have a stall somewhere, collecting signatures for one of our ongoing campaigns. But we need enough volunteers to fill the rota. Can you help? The festival takes place a short walk from the train stati0n, so you don’t need to be Banbury-based to get involved.

At our September meeting we’ll decide what campaign to focus on for Banbury Canal Day 2015.

Drop the debt: petition for Greece

18 August 2015 by kate Leave a Comment

“In January, after five long years of punishing austerity followed by deepening poverty, inequality and social crisis, the Greek people demanded a change of course. They gave their new government a mandate to end austerity and renegotiate the terms of Greece’s bailout loans.

“But five months into the negotiations, Greece’s powerful creditors are refusing to budge. The ‘Troika’ of the European Union, the IMF and the ECB are demanding more of the same austerity ‘medicine’ that has plunged Greece into crisis.”

The Jubilee Debt Campaign has created a petition calling for Greece’s debt to be cancelled:
