The people versus the banks conference & WDM AGM
WDM activist conference 2012 – a free public activist conference for anyone with an interest in global justice issues.
1pm-6pm, Saturday 23 June

- Keynote speech and Q&A with Aditya Chakrabortty, economics lead writer at the Guardian.
- Multimedia talk on Chile’s revolt against neoliberalism with Roberto Navarrete.
- Debate on co-operatives, their role in tackling poverty and inequality, and as alternatives to corporate banks.
- Workshops on financial sector lobbying, tackling banks’ role in speculating on food prices and stopping the sell off of natural resources in the name of creating a ‘green economy’.
- Campaigning skills workshops.

WDM members should be aware that WDM’s Annual General Meeting will take place in the same venue from 10.30am to 12pm (with registration and refreshments from 10am), this will be followed by a session consulting members on the direction of our campaigns from 12 to 12.45pm. A full agenda will be available nearer the time.

The May meeting will also be our AGM. As well as looking back on successes during the year, we look forward to the future – and crucially, which people are going to have the named positions within the group. These positions are:

Food speculation street stunt
Saturday 3rd March, 2012
11am-12pm. We will be doing a piece of street theatre/stunt focusing on food speculation outside Tesco on Cowley Road, Oxford. Come along and have some fun and put across an important message at the same time. If you don’t feel like dressing up, we need people handing out cards etc too.

Witney Fair Trade Market 2012

2-5pm Sat & Sun: Trading for Development and the Jericho Community Centre are holding their annual Fair Trade Christmas Fair at the Jericho Community Centre (33a Canal Street, Oxford, OX2 6BQ)
As well as fair trade products, there will also be a raffle in aid of the Oxford-based homeless charity, The Gatehouse.
