Talk: measurements of poverty and the stories they tell

Tuesday 13th November

For our November meeting, Sabina Alkire the Director of Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative, will be talking about measurements of poverty and the stories they tell.

This meeting is free and open to all. No need to book, just turn up.

8:00pm – 9:15pm, Oxford Town Hall, St Aldates

Sabina Alkire directs the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), a research centre within the Department of International Development, University of Oxford. In addition, she is a Research Associate at Harvard and Vice President of the Human Development & Capability Association (HDCA).

There will be a short business meeting of the Oxford WDM Group at 7:30pm.

Oxfam One World Fair

Saturday 17 November

10am-4pm. The 22nd One World Fair returns to Oxford Town Hall and after last year’s success, it promises to be as jam packed and full of interesting and eye-opening stalls as ever! Oxford WDM will be having a stall at the fair – do drop by and visit.

Making a movement: skills, tools and networking for the fight for global justice

This informal gathering is open to WDM local groups and to anyone interested in campaigning with WDM. The event will cover the following areas:

  • WDM campaigns; where next
  • How to grow your group using the web
  • Skill-sharing and action planning
  • Screening of ‘Growing Change’; a film charting the growth of food sovereignty in Venezuela

When: Saturday 1 September, 10.30 to 5.00
Where: Horfield Quaker Meeting House, 300 Gloucester Road, Horfield, Bristol
