Global Justice Sheffield is supporting the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to stop the re-licensing of glyphosate. An EU refusal to relicense glyphosate, the basis of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready patented seeds, would be a powerful contribution towards discrediting this way of farming worldwide.
This in turn would help to protect small-scale farmers in the global south from the current corporate bid to push industrial, soil-destroying farming methods on to developing countries, such as being driven into dependence on unaffordable patented GM seeds and the chemicals required to grow them which in turn could put these farmers into debt, or off their land.
