This workshop is open to individuals and groups campaigning on TTIP. If you would like to attend this workshop, please email us at globaljusticesheffield@gmail.com so we have an idea of numbers for planning purposes.

TTIP International Day of Action

February 14, 2015 by sheffield

Saturday 18th April, 11am-2pm: #noTTIP International Day of Action
Civil society groups from across the EU and further afield have called for an international day of action against TTIP and other trade deals on 18th April.

In Sheffield we are going to be undertaking a fun action in Fargate to engage the public and raise awareness of the issues around TTIP. We’ll have some giant hulahoop-sized “coins” for passers-by to have fun spinning: “TTIP = corporate profits” on one side and “People power, no TTIP” on the other. And we will be collecting signatures for the anti-TTIP petition to the European Parliament, and to alert members of the public to all the anti-people changes that big business is trying to sneak in behind our backs.

Meet: at upper Fargate, opposite Norfolk Row and near Next.

Volunteer: to help out on the day (meeting at 10am), we need people to help collect signatures. If you can help out, please contact Oliver: o.blensdorf@gmail.com.

The action is a joint one between Global Justice Sheffield, local supporters of 38 Degrees, Friends of the Earth Sheffield, Sheffield Trades Council, and others.  If other groups can join in, please do!

TTIP: building the fightback – conference organised by War on Want – Manchester

February 14, 2015 by sheffield

2015 is the pivotal year for TTIP. We’ll be holding a conference this March –  sharing fun and practical ways to take action to get TTIP off the table. This trade deal will result in over a million lost jobs, tear up the food safety regulations that keep us safe from toxic chemicals and genetically modified ingredients, scrap digital safety laws and throw new banking regulations out of the window. TTIP offers a nightmare vision of the future, and we must resist it. This event will be a major public demonstration of our commitment to a fairer world, and we really hope to see you there.

The movement needs your voice

January 29, 2015 by sheffield

Global Justice Sheffield member Julieanne talks about why the movement needs your voice.

Cross posted from national Global Justice Now website:

2015 is election year for Global Justice Now. Taking place every three years, council elections determine the governing body of Global Justice Now, which is made up of a range of people including recent and long-term supporters of the organisation and activists from local groups. Now, before you think this isn’t relevant to me – STOP – yes it is, and we need your voice on council.

The heart of Global Justice Now is its members and local group activists. I’ve been a member of Global Justice Now since about 2001, and over the years I have campaigned on issues from GATS to food speculation. I have helped put on public meetings, lobby MPs and MEPs, run stalls, taken part in demonstrations and campaign stunts, set up and run group websites and managed social media activities. I’m saying this, not because it’s unique, but because it’s an example of what a lot of you reading this will have been involved in too.

Current Campaigns

Don't let corporate courts block climate action.
Corporate courts give fossil fuel companies the power to sue governments for taking action on the climate emergency. They are an obstacle to a clean energy transition and to achieving climate justice. Tell Boris Johnson and the trade department not to let corporate courts block climate action.

Suspend patents on Covid-19 vaccines.
We are facing a global scarcity of vaccines because big pharma patents and corporate secrecy prevent other manufacturers from making them. We need the government to remove the barriers to ramp up global supply and ensure fair allocation of vaccines. No one is safe until everyone is safe. Join the campaign for A People's Vaccine.
