Food and film (Disruption) at SCACC AGM

October 7, 2015 by sheffield

Tuesday 20th October, 7pm

Film Disruption: ‘When it comes to climate change, why do we do so little when we know so much?’
Through a relentless investigation to find the answer, Disruption takes an unflinching look at the devastating consequences of our inaction.

We are hoping people will come and be inspired by this short, uplifting film and gain an understanding of this important issue. We want to share with you why tackling climate change is driving us to take action to protect our children’s futures. This hopeful film shows the power of people like us coming together to act.

Arrive for AGM starting at 6.15pm or food and film at 7pm – PLEASE BOOK here

Venue: Pakistan Muslim Centre, Woodbourn Rd, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 3LQ

Stop the transatlantic trade deals (Leeds)

September 22, 2015 by sheffield

Tuesday 3rd November, 7pm

In early 2016, a trade deal between Canada and the EU (the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, or CETA) is due to be debated and voted on in the European parliament. CETA is a lot like TTIP, the US-EU trade deal currently under negotiation – except the negotiations are finished on CETA. Like TTIP it allows corporations to sue governments in secret courts over decisions they don’t like.

As part of the growing movement against corporate trade deals and to try to stop final agreement of CETA, Global Justice Now are planning a speaker tour in early November. On 3rd November it will be in Leeds and will include speakers from Uganda and Canada.

Venue: The Carriageworks, The Electric Press, Millennium Square, Leeds LS2 3AD

Current Campaigns

Don't let corporate courts block climate action.
Corporate courts give fossil fuel companies the power to sue governments for taking action on the climate emergency. They are an obstacle to a clean energy transition and to achieving climate justice. Tell Boris Johnson and the trade department not to let corporate courts block climate action.

Suspend patents on Covid-19 vaccines.
We are facing a global scarcity of vaccines because big pharma patents and corporate secrecy prevent other manufacturers from making them. We need the government to remove the barriers to ramp up global supply and ensure fair allocation of vaccines. No one is safe until everyone is safe. Join the campaign for A People's Vaccine.
