See you at the Brink Liverpool – September 23rd for our Autumn meeting

September 2, 2015 by merseyside

We invite you to come and join us for our next meeting and help campaign for a fairer society for all.

Venue:    The BRINK, 21 Parr Street, Liverpool,  L1 4JN.

Time:       7.30 PM Wednesday September 23rd September

Global Justice Merseyside  is the local branch Global Justice Now

Global Justice Merseyside challenge corporate power and the policies that cause poverty and inequality all over the world;     we   do creative street campaigning, lobby politicians, get media coverage and organise local events such as film screenings and workshops.

Our present campaigns include actions on:

 Energy injustice and climate change

The corporate grip over energy keeps 1.3 billion people without access to electricity. And energy privatisation, supported by the UK government in countries like Nigeria, is putting equitable energy access even further out of reach;

Africa is producing more and more food. Why is hunger rising?

Huge corporations are scrambling to take control of Africa’s food at the expense of the small-scale farmers who feed most of the continent.

Help us end the support for the corporate take-over of Africa’s food via the international movement for Food Sovereignty;

TTIP: a threat to democracy, standards and jobs’

TTIP is a deal that aims to remove ‘non-tariff barriers to trade’. There’s very little obstacle to trade between the EU and the US at present — tariffs are at an all-time low. But corporations, on both sides of the Atlantic, want to remove other rules and regulations that might be stopping them from making even bigger profits.

Merseyside WDM join ‘say noTTIP’ Day of Action Saturday 11th OCT

October 8, 2014 by merseyside

Merseyside WDM Members hold their Day of Action on:

TTIP1

Saturday  11th October between   1.00pm  and 3.00pm.  Church St, Liverpool City Centre is the venue.

We have noTTIP cards to sign and The TTIP Times to hand out to the people of Liverpool to raise awareness of how democracy and UK Sovereignty will be transferred to the mercy of foreign corporations,  if this US – EU Trade Partnership is completed in it’s present form behind closed doors.  The details of the business deal will not be made known to the public for 30 years as the text of what is proposed is officially a secret to the public.

Have a look at how this peoposed bi-lateral agreement changes everything about our future regulations on food, health and safety regulations, our environment, our public services including health services forever.

It will be almost impossible to renationalise our NHS because of the pending threat to any government  who changes their policy for the benefit of their citizens when this treaty is agreed. This sensible behaviour  is likely  incur the wrath of Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS ) tribunal rules  if the potential future profits of the  foreign operators ( e.g. private foreign  health care  corporations bidding on public precurement contracts for NHS contracts ) is said to have been effected adversely by the elected government policy10 reasons 2

 1. A threat to our democracy

2. A threat to our public service

3. A threat to our food safety

4. A threat to our environment

5. A threat to our climate

6. A  threat to our privacy

7. A threat to our financial control

8. A threat to our human rights

9. Negotiated secretly

10. A blue -print for the rest of the world and future bilateral agreements.

We’re part of Global Justice Now, a democratic membership organisation which campaigns against inequality and injustice in the global economy. We want to see a world where ordinary people control the resources they need to live a decent life, rather than corporations and the super rich calling the shots.
