Diary: events and actions

–

Wednesday 14th April 2021, 6-7pm:

Covid-19: Are we really all in this together?

When Dr Jonas Salk was asked who owned the patent on his newly developed polio vaccine he replied, “Well, the people, I would say. There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?”

Not taking out a patent cost Dr Salk a notional $7billion, but polio was eradicated from the face of the earth.

Big Pharma is taking a different approach. Determined to hold on to their ‘intellectual property’ at all costs, they are obstructing the production of life saving vaccines across the globe. Even Astra Zeneca, who have promised to sell their vaccine at cost, are anticipating massive profits.

We are holding a joint webinar with Oxfam Manchester, Manchester Amnesty Group and an invited speaker from Manchester University to discuss the issues involved and what might be done to improve the situation.
