Open market

A really good day out at the West End Farmers Market today (10th Aug), chatting to lots of people who were really interested in our campaign to stop bankers gambling on food. 35 people signed campaign cards before we ran out. And they’ll be winging their way to 14 different MPs from across Glasgow and beyond – let’s hope they’re listening (and that includes you, Danny Alexander MP!)

Good to see that a man in a bowler hat and pinny doesn’t scare people away from what matters…

Market Speculation

August 8, 2013 by glasgow

City Markets logoWe’ll have a stall at the West End Farmers Market this Saturday, talking to shoppers about the evils of food speculation.

Saturday 10th August, 10am-2pm, West End Farmers Market, Mansfield Park (just off Dumbarton Road, near Kelvinhall tube)

It’s a crucial moment, as the EU regulations which could control the mad bankers and stop them gambling on hunger are entering the final stage of negotiation. So come along, sign a campaign card and find out more about the campaign.

Penguin power!

June 3, 2013 by glasgow

The sun came out for the Gibson Street Gala on Sunday, which made for a really great day…although it nearly melted our marvellous penguin. We had a lot of fun with the lucky dip – lost count of the number of kids and adults who saved polar bears from the rising tides of climate change.

And most importantly, we had some really good conversations with people about climate change and the madness of UK banks funding fossil fuel companies around the world.

Nearly 250 people signed the petition to Vince Cable demanding more transparency in carbon reporting from banks. Come on Vince, it’s time to listen!

Watch out – the penguins are coming!

May 29, 2013 by glasgow

It might not feel like summer yet, but it’s the West End Festival soon – we’ll be there as usual. And the giant penguins are coming with us!

Sunday 2nd June, 12-6pm, Gibson Street Gala

Not to mention our marvellous lucky dip – come along and save a penguin or a polar bear…

Oh, and we’ll also be talking to people about our new Carbon Capital campaign. It’s time to reveal the evil nexus that joins fossil fuel companies, UK banks and Westminster politicians. For more info, see www.wdm.org.uk/carbon-capital

There is a better way

May 6, 2013 by glasgow

The WDM Glasgow bankers had a good day out at the May Day rally, talking to people about the new future-proofed savings offer from the ‘Oil Bank of Scotland’. Why worry about interest rates when you can invest your money in fossil fuels and ensure that there is no future in which to spend your savings…?

And good to see such a strong turnout at the rally this year. A sense of growing determination to resist the cuts to public services in this country and around the world. Lots of good debate and strong support for our petition to make bankers come clean on the carbon emissions they’re funding.
