Wild guesses and no queueing

April 25, 2014 by glasgow

Serious quiz-based fun was had by all in O’Neill’s last night. The place was packed, the competition was fierce and it all came down to a tie breaker at the end. We learned lots of useless facts – who knew that the only word in the English language which has 5 consecutive vowels is ‘queueing’? Or that Andy Murray’s middle name is Barron? Or that tunnels near Invergordon hold the record for the world’s longest echo?

Lots of like-minded people and organisations were there to battle it out and we raised nearly £250. So the next time you see us dressing up as penguins to highlight climate change, you know where the money came from to hire the suit! Thanks guys.

2014 Matters!

March 11, 2014 by glasgow

2014 Matters logoThere’s a wee referendum thing coming up later this year, if you haven’t noticed. Most of the debate so far has been about the economic impact for people in Scotland, and related issues like the pound and the European Union. But the future of Scotland, whether independent or part of the UK, is bound up with bigger, global issues, so we think these should be part of the referendum discussion too. 2014 Matters is an opportunity to get into those wider debates.

Wednesday 19th March, 7:30-9pm

Charles Wilson Building, 1 University Avenue, G12 8QQ (on the corner of Gibson St)

Speakers – Willie Rennie MSP (Leader, Scottish Liberal Democrats), Sarah Boyack MSP (Scottish Labour, former Scottish Environment Minister), Patrick Harvie MSP (Co-convenor, Scottish Greens), Paul Wheelhouse MSP (Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Scottish Government and SNP). Debate chaired by Judith Robertson (Director, SeeMe, former Chief Exec of Oxfam in Scotland).
