TTIP action 11-10-14 - smallIt’s hard to give a real sense of the energy on Buchanan Street on Saturday morning, when 70 people pitched up to take action on TTIP. We were just one of over 1100 actions taking place across Europe against this crazy trade deal. It’s just a corporate power grab, which is why it’s being negotiated in secret, and why everyone we spoke to was horrified. We added more than 200 names to the Europe-wide petition and there are now more than 600,000 signatures, in just a week! If you haven’t signed already, you can do so here.

HSBC climate crime scene 4 smallAll of the big UK banks are continuing to throw money at fossil fuel projects around the world. So even if we ignore the rather weak performance of western governments to reduce emissions, our banks are busy burning the future by funding coal, oil and other dirty energy projects. As part of the Reclaim Power global week of action, we thought we’d take a wee tour round the banks of Glasgow to create a bit of noise.

No TTIP!!!

The European Commission are still trying to negotiate the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership behind closed doors. If we weren’t suspicious enough about secret negotiations on a charter for corporations’ rights, it turns out that they are strangely reluctant to have any democratic scrutiny of the deal. We haven’t quite finalised our plans yet, but we’re aiming to take action on the European Day of Action against TTIP.

Root n Toot festival 06-09-13 - flyerWe’ll be heading down to sunny Lanarkshire for the mighty fine Root n Toot festival, which will be full of cool workshops, stalls, music and more.

Glasgow says no ttip!!!

DSC00239Those corporate lobbyists might think that the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is a good idea, but the people of Glasgow certainly don’t. Talking to people in Byres Road today, it’s clear that the public hate the idea of our public services being forcibly privatised, or the notion that corporations should be able to sue governments. And it’s no surprise that people are suspicious of a deal that’s being cooked up behind closed doors!
