A grand day out at the Gibson Street Gala on Sunday 31 May. The crowds were out as usual, despite the occasional monsoon-esque downpour and the nasty wind. Our ‘Free the Seeds’ lucky dip was over-run and 234 people signed our petition to the International Development Secretary, Justine Greening, urging her to spend aid money on helping small farmers, not big business. Time to listen to the people, Justine!!

Global day of action!
It’s the global day of action on trade this Saturday – people all around the world will be taking action against corporate trade deals. We’ll be out in Buchanan Street, raising awareness with anyone and everyone, to get the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership onto the political agenda.
Saturday 18 April, 11am – 1pm
Buchanan Street Steps
Come along to say hi, sign the petition against TTIP if you haven’t already, and lend a hand. We’ll have our banner, so you can’t miss us…and hopefully the weather will be better than the last time we took the banner out.
Use the steps whilst they’re still there
Sad to see that Glasgow City Council have decided to remove the Concert Hall steps, which have become such an integral part of public life in the city. But we can use them whilst they’re still there – we’ll be out talking to the good folk of Glasgow about the evils of TTIP this Saturday.
Saturday 28 Feb, 11am – 1pm
Meet by Donald Dewar Statue, Buchanan Street
We’ll have our life-size NHS puppets again, plus a giant banner, so you won’t miss us if you want to come and say hi, or give us a hand. Oh, and there will be a protest about the steps from 12 too, so you get two protest actions for the price of one…
Let’s stop TTIP this year!
There’s another round of TTIP negotiations at the start of Feb, so we thought we’d make sure they don’t go unnoticed in Glasgow. We’ll be out in the West End, talking to people about the evils of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and how it hands even more power to the corporations.
Sat 31 Jan, 11am – 2pm
Meet at Hillhead Library, Byres Road
We’ll be asking people to sign the EU-wide petition against TTIP and to harass their MPs and MSPs, so that no-one is any doubt – we don’t want this crazy deal!
Come along for as long as you like – you’ll definitely be able to spot us…
TTIP-ing point?
It’s all happening on TTIP. If you haven’t seen it already, the Europe-wide petition has now raced past a million signatures. If you haven’t already signed it, you can sign it here.
And both the French and Dutch parliaments have recently passed resolutions expressing their concerns about both TTIP and CETA (the equivalent deal with Canada).
We’ve been pretty busy too – we were at the Hope Not Hate ‘Is TTIP a Racist Policy?’ event last week and we’ll be at the public meeting being organised by Ann McKechin MP this week:
Thursday 11 December, 6:30pm, Hillhead Library
Oh, and it was European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker’s birthday today – nice to see that the Stop TTIP campaign took him a wee present…
Reclaim Power
All of the big UK banks are continuing to throw money at fossil fuel projects around the world. So even if we ignore the rather weak performance of western governments to reduce emissions, our banks are busy burning the future by funding coal, oil and other dirty energy projects. As part of the Reclaim Power global week of action, we thought we’d take a wee tour round the banks of Glasgow to create a bit of noise.
Saturday 18 Oct, 2-4pm, outside various banks
Give us a shout if you want to join us – especially if you fancy coming along dressed as a banker or a miner. And watch out for our social media story on the day…
