Visit to Brussels

On 3rd February Barbara Welford, our secretary,  joined eighty other people at St Pancras Station to travel to Brussels to protest against TTIP.  The group was made up of members of Global Justice Now (formerly World Development Movement), 38 Degrees and War on Want.  When she got to Brussels she linked up with other campaigners from across Europe, including Friends of the Earth Europe.

From 15th January we are now Global Justice Cleveland

WDM East Cleveland group have changed their name to Global Justice Cleveland to match the change in name of our national organisation from the World Development Movement to Global Justice Now.

Here are the dates for our next four meetings:

Open meeting – 29th September 2014

We are meeting in The Marine Hotel, Marine Parade, Saltburn-by-the-Sea starting at 8.15pm.

The main focus of the discussion will be how we are going to take forward the campaign against the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

East Cleveland WDM annual summer walk

Join members of East Cleveland WDM on their annual summer walk.  This is a chance to informally discuss issues relating to current campaigns such as the corporate takeover of food in Africa.

Meet outside the Ship Inn, Saltburn ready to start walking at 7.30pm and bring a picnic.  The walk will end with a visit to the Ship Inn.

East Cleveland WDM meet new Labour MEP

Barbara Welford, from East Cleveland WDM, explains the ‘Stop the corporate takeover of Africa’s food’ campaign to  our new Labour MEP (on left of photo), at Saltburn Farmers’ Market on Saturday 14th June.

Members of the group also introduced WDM’s new campaign to stop the corporate takeover of Africa’s food with members of the public by attracting them with a large cake in the shape of Africa.

129 campaign postcards were signed to send to 10 different MPs, both local and even as far away as Argyll and Bute in Scotland.
