On 28th February we held a stall in the Old Market Square to campaign on Energy Justice. The corporate grip over energy keeps 1.3 billion people without access to electricity. And energy privatisation supported by the UK government in countries like Nigeria, is putting equitable energy access even further out of reach.

Eighty-five people own as much wealth as half the world’s population. This level of inequality is unprecedented, but it’s not an accident. The past three decades have seen the world’s economies restructured to suit big business. Public services have been privatised. Common land has been grabbed. Climate change has accelerated. Financial markets now rule the roost.
But the corporate elite haven’t had it all their own way. Popular movements have resisted these modern enclosures. In Latin America particularly, governments have come to power on a platform of putting people ahead of profit.
In 2015, the World Development Movement will become Global Justice Now. Take Back Our World is our national launch event, as well as an opportunity to be educated, be entertained, and organise for a world not ruled by the priorities of big business.
Join us to discuss: Food sovereignty • Latin America’s alternative • Energy justice • Art and social change • Fighting TTIP and corporate power • Reversing privatisation • Reviving democracy • Movement building
Also featuring a specially commissioned exhibition by street artists from Mexico, Democracia Real Ya. Plus an afterparty with live music from Laid Blak and 47 Soul and a DJ set from Movimientos.

We held a Climate Crime Scene protest outside HSBC in Nottingham city centre. We labelled the bank as a crime scene because of its role in financing fossil fuel extraction, and asked members of the public to sign action cards, to be delivered to HSBC with a piece of coal for each action card.
