Heidi Chow from national GJN to speak at March meeting

Join us at the March meeting (Thursday 4th, on Zoom) to hear Heidi Chow from the national office speak about the Big Pharma campaign, particularly with respect to the current Covid crisis and the distribution of vaccines.

A day of action is planned for March 11th- come and hear more about it

Tomorrow, at 6.30pm, Daniel from the national team at GJN will join our monthly meeting. You are welcome to join us.
He will be speaking for 15 – 20 mins on
  • How the recent DfID merger fits into the longer term corporate hijack of aid
  • How UK aid is used to privatise public healthcare and exacerbate inequalities
  • How UK aid is used to invest in fossil fuels overseas
  • What the DfID merger tells us about the government’s international vision for the UK and its work to promote Global Britain / Empire 2.0

Action against the US trade deal

Many local supporters have joined in actions to oppose the planned US trade deal which threatens to reshape our society into a corporate marketplace, which will have adverse effects on our NHS, our action to reduce climate change, our food standards, and more.

Many groups and individuals have signed the letter to the local papers (see link below)

A Halloween-themed group gathered in Bradford Centenary Square with the Global Justice Now banner. Many groups around the country joined in similar actions – you can see these on the national GJN website

First-ever virtual lobby of Parliament

Earlier this week, members of our local group joined others from Bradford West, in lobbying Naz Shah, MP, via Zoom.

This was part of a national event (“The Time is Now”) organised by The Climate Coalition, campaigning for a green recovery from the Covid crisis

Our discussion with Naz centred around our concerns about the expansion of Leeds Bradford airport, and the negative impact it would have on the environment. Naz was open about the pressure she receives from the business community who favour the expansion, but listened to our concerns and agreed to ask her researchers to look into the detail more carefully.
